Riverbed® NetIM version 2.x represents NetIM’s next generation and a major change from previous releases regarding scalability, software architecture, and deployment.
UPGRADE ALERT:
We have identified a critical issue affecting the Ubuntu OS upgrade from NetIM version 2.7 to 2.8, particularly when the upgrade process detects "Additional Packages". These packages must be removed before upgrading to avoid a kernel panic error, specifically "Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block(0,0)". Since this issue is more likely in systems with extra package configurations, we advise removing these additional packages as a precautionary step before upgrading. Detailed guidance is available in our Knowledge Base Article S38011 for further assistance.
NetIM 2.8.0 is available for the following hypervisors: VMware ESXi 7.0 and 8.0, Microsoft Hyper-V 2019 and 2022, and Nutanix AOS 6.5.2 LTS (AHV version 20220304.342). Images for installation in Azure and Amazon Web Services are also available.
Due to the installation of Ubuntu updates in the NetIM 2.8.0 ISO Updates, all NetIM VMs will be rebooted as part of the ISO Update process. Please plan accordingly and request appropriate permissions in your organization. The NetIM ISO Update includes parallel update capability across multiple workers and data managers simultaneously.
Due to major version upgrade of the Ubuntu OS and PostgreSQL service, the ISO update might require more time than previous upgrades. Before updating to NetIM 2.8.0, thoroughly review the System Requirements and ISO_Update_Guide documents. If you plan to migrate from NetIM 1.x, review Migrating to NetIM 2.8.0.
