Status-reporting mechanism

Reporting of Uptime and Health Information
As part of Riverbed's on-going quality assurance efforts, Riverbed software releases report configuration, uptime and health information to Riverbed on a regular schedule. The collected information permits Riverbed to gauge appliance health and feature usage by appliance serial number. Riverbed uses this information to help ensure that Riverbed customers obtain the best results and best performance from Riverbed products. This status-reporting mechanism has been built into RiOS since 4.1.9, Cascade since 9.0, and in other Riverbed products. For customer support purposes, Riverbed recommends that customers leave status reporting enabled. A user can disable this status-reporting mechanism by following the steps listed below.

Limited Use of Information Collected
When an issue of high importance emerges, Riverbed may use the information collected to proactively notify users who are running affected versions of RiOS (or other applicable software). Riverbed may analyze collected data to uncover problematic appliance configurations in response to, or in advance of, a customer opening a support case. Riverbed may also use the information collected to obtain usage patterns and generic statistics across its customer base. These patterns and statistics may help Riverbed ascertain identify general trends that will help Riverbed improve its products, and configuration trends that will help guide Riverbed to provide proactive support for individual customers.

Protection of Information
Any nonpublic information reported to Riverbed using this mechanism will be treated by Riverbed as confidential information. Riverbed does not trade, sell or otherwise disclose this information, provided that Riverbed may disclose this information to (a) its affiliates, (b) its business partners and subcontractors in connection with the services they provide to Riverbed and our customers and partners, (c) where necessary to comply with law or regulation, and (d) where necessary to enforce or protect Riverbed’s rights, property or safety.
