Upgrading SteelHead Central Controller Software
Riverbed recommends that you upgrade your software from one major version to the next, without skipping intermediate versions. The recommended upgrade path is:
5.5.4c > (6.0.1 or 6.1.x) > 6.5.x > (7.0.x or 8.0.x) > 8.5.x > 8.6.x > (9.0.x or 9.1.x or 9.2.x) > (9.5.x or 9.6.x or 9.7.x or 9.8.x) > 9.9.x > (9.10.x > 9.12.x)
Missing the intermediate steps can lead to irrecoverable database corruption.
Note: The SCC version 9.0 and later is only available as a 64-bit image. Customers that have an existing 32-bit CMC-VE appliance running 8.6.0c or older needs to migrate it to a 64-bit appliance and transfer the licenses, before upgrading to SCC 9.0.
⚠️!! Important Alert !!
- Starting from 10.3, the new SCC license is the only supported licensing model for Virtual and Cloud deployments of the SCC running 10.3.0 and beyond. The older licenses are not compatible with the new SCC version and the new licenses are not compatible with the legacy SCC deployments.
- Upgrade to 10.3.0 is not supported so please plan for a fresh deployment.
- To help migrate configurations from earlier SCC versions to the new 10.3.0 SCC, a detailed KB has been created to walk you through the steps.

- Please refer to the Central License Management feature documentation in the SCC Deployment Guide as well as the KB below. This feature helps in the self-management of Dynamic Flex licenses via the SCC and provides detailed visibility in SteelHead asset and license inventory.
