Steelhead Mobile Controller

A Steelhead Mobile deployment relies on the Mobile controller, which acts as a gateway for remote users and is installed at a data center or at the server-side of the WAN. The Mobile Controller features a Web-based GUI that you use to centrally manage your endpoint clients. You can also use the Mobile Controller console for endpoint client software upgrades, licensing, reporting, and monitoring.

 

There are three types of virtual Steelhead Mobile Controller (SMC):

  • SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile - Virtual Edition (SMC-VE) runs on RSP and is available at the Riverbed Services Platform software page. Note that this RSP package is for initial installation only. Use the images on this page to upgrade SMC-VE to a version later than 3.0.2c.
  • Virtual SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile for VSP (VSMC-VSP) runs on VSP on the Steelhead EX 1.X models. The current version of VSMC-VSP (3.1.3d-vsp) software is available below.
  • Virtual SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile (V-SMC) runs in ESX/hypervisor environments. The .ova file and checksum for the current version of V-SMC software (4.6.0) are available below.

Important Upgrade Notes

  • SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile version 4.7.0 and higher requires at least 3GB of memory to be allocated for the SMC 8550 (SMC-VE), 8551 and 8552 models.
  • Upgrading SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile software directly from version 1.0x to version 4.0x is not supported. To upgrade from version 1.0x to version 4.0x, you need to first upgrade to version 2.0x and then upgrade to version 4.0x.
  • You can use SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile versions 2.1.2a and later to upgrade both SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile (SMC) and SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile - Virtual Edition  (SMC-VE) installations.
