Setting Up NetIM
This section explains how to set up NetIM for the first time and then optimize NetIM for site-specific deployments, and consists of the following topics:
“Initial Configuration Tasks“
“Optimizing Your NetIM Deployment“
Initial Configuration Tasks
Once NetIM has been installed and operational, you need to configure NetIM to discover and collect data from devices in your network by performing the mandatory steps in the following table.
For information on installing and configuring NetIM and the list of supported browsers, see the installation and migration documentation on the support site.
The table lists everything you need to do to start discovering and polling your network infrastructure.

1
Login to the NetIM UI as admin.
The admin account allows you to access the configuration pages and wizards.
2
Add licenses.
CONFIGURE->All Settings->Administer->Licensing
Add licenses using the instructions provided using email.
3
Start server processes.
CONFIGURE->All Settings->Administer->Core Server Management
In the Server Processes panel, click Start Processes.
After you add licenses, NetIM will prompt you to start or restart services. Using the Server Status screen is an optional way to manage services.
4
Run basic setup.
CONFIGURE->Basic Setup
After you add licenses, the Basic Setup wizard appears.
You have a choice of the type of discovery you want performed on your network. Choices are the classic crawl-based autodiscovery or IP address range sweep.
Additionally, you can configure automatic polling of newly discovered devices and schedule collection.
For more information on metric polling, see Configuring Metric Polling.
5
Add devices
CONFIGURE->All Settings->Discover->Add/Discover Devices
After you complete the Basic Setup wizard, the Add/Discover Devices wizard appears.
Use this wizard to create device entries and optionally collect and import device data to create your network topology.
After you add devices, metric polling begins automatically. Metric polling is done using the default polling profile. The default polling profile specifies a basic set of metrics that will be collected every 5 minutes from all pollable devices.
Optimizing Your NetIM Deployment
The following table lists configuration tasks that you can perform after the initial configuration is complete:.
