Configuring Storage : Configuring NFS exports

Configuring NFS exports
As of version 5.0, you can configure file-based NFS exports and Edge Local Exports in the Exports page. Typically, NFS exports are used to store production data. They share the space in the blockstore cache of the associated Edges, and the data is continuously replicated and kept synchronized with the associated export in the data center. The Edge blockstore caches only the working set of files for these exports; additional data is retrieved from the data center when needed.
Edge Local Exports are used to store transient and temporary data, and also use dedicated space in the blockstore cache of the associated Edges, but this data isn’t replicated back to the data center. As of version 5.1, VMware VMs containing independent VMDKs from Edge Local Exports/non-Riverbed datastores are included for protection. During backups, disks created on Edge Local Exports and non-Riverbed datastores are excluded.
Note: Export configuration is only available when using Core version 5.0 or later in conjunction with Edge version 5.0 or later. For details on software compatibility, see Hardware and software dependencies.
As of version 5.0, storage is controlled by the Core. You will specify exports for the VSP ESXi hypervisor from the Core Management Console. To configure NFS exports, you will mount exports to the Core and then map those exports from the Core to the Edge.
The following steps describe the general process for configuring exports:
1. From the Core, add the Edge.
You can add an Edge in the Configure > Manage: SteelFusion Edges page. Expand the desired Edge to display controls that include the Exports tab. For details on adding an Edge, see Configuring Edges.
2. From the Edge, connect to the Core.
On the Edge, the controls in the Storage > Storage Edge Configuration page enable you to specify the Edge Virtual IP Configuration details and connect to the Core. For details, see the SteelFusion Edge Management Console User Guide.
3. Mount and map the exports.
The wizard in the Configure > NFS: Exports page enables you to add a storage array, mount and map exports, and then pin and/or prepopulate those exports. For details, see Mounting and mapping NFS exports. For details on creating an Edge Local Export, see Creating an Edge Local Export.
4. Verify the exports.
Using the Export I/O Metrics report in the Reports > Storage: Export I/O Metrics page, you can verify that the new exports are working as expected. For details, see Viewing the Export I/O Metrics report.
5. Run the Hypervisor Installer.
For details, see the SteelFusion Edge Management Console User Guide.
