Installing ESXi and Riverbed software
Once the Edge Installation Server discovers a new target appliance on the installation network ready to be installed, it prompts you to select the Edge model to be installed. The target appliance will be identified using its MAC address of the primary interface, which is on the installation network.
1. Follow the instructions in the Edge Installation Server console. If the target appliance does not appear in the Appliances To Install section, check the console output of the target appliance. If the target appliance failed to boot in the ESXi installer, or if the ESXi installation has failed, the current active ESXi image is not compatible with the hardware.
2. Enter I to display a list of appliances available for installation.
3. Enter the number for the appliance you want to install.
4. Once you choose the appliance, the installer prompts you to choose the Edge model to install, the default username, and the default password.
5. The installer then connects the appliance and creates datastores on the available disks on the appliance.
6. Choose the datastore where you want to install the Edge blockstore and cache.
7. Select the cache and blockstore datastores according to the model’s hardware requirements. The cache datastore must be stored on the SSD volume.
The appliance starts in the background, and its MAC address is displayed in the Currently Installing Appliances section along with the current installation state. Once the appliance installation is complete, its MAC address moves from the Currently Installing Appliances section to the Installed Appliances section.
Do not quit the user interface if there are any installations in progress.
