Installing Edge Appliances
The basic steps for installing the product are:
1. Configure the server hardware.
2. Install VMware ESXi and Riverbed software.
3. Configure the bypass card.
4. Map ESXi virtual switches to physical uplinks.
The text-based installer UI allows you to install Riverbed software on new hardware. Once you start the installer UI, it continuously scans for new targets to be installed. Each target appliance for installation is identified in the user interface using the MAC address of the primary interface of the appliance. When you run the installer, the on-screen output displays the following information:
• Appliances To Install—Displays the MAC address of any new target appliances available for installation.
• Currently Installing Appliances—Displays the appliance information and current state of installation of appliances currently being installed. The syntax is as follows:
<MAC-address>|Start time:<start-time>|<model>|CPUs:<cpus>|RAM:<memory-size>|S:<storagesize>|End Time:In progress
• Failed Appliance Installations—Displays the MAC addresses of appliances with failed installation attempts. The syntax is as follows:
<MAC-address>|Start time:<start-time>|<model>|CPUs:<cpus>|RAM:<memory-size>|S:<storagesize>|End Time:<end-time>
Once you provide the information required for an appliance installation, the installation of that appliance runs in the background. When the appliance installation is complete, the MAC address moves from the Currently Installing Appliances section to the Installed Appliances section.

You can view the logs and reasons for installation failure in the first Secure Shell (SSH) window showing installer logs.
To run the installer interface, enter this command:
PXE:$/usr/local/bin/vsrse_deploy/bin/ui_srse_install.py
After running this command, the Edge Installation Server is ready.
If multiple appliances are ready for deployment, use IP addresses along with MAC addresses to identify the target ESXi host and server.
