Metric Classes by Vendor/Device Type

Metric Classes by Vendor/Device Type
Some metric classes apply to all SNMP-managed devices. See “Universal Metric Classes". Other metric classes only apply to certain vendors or device types. When NetIM creates a polling schedule, it sets up polling for a device for the applicable metric classes in the device’s polling profile. NetIM determines which metric classes are applicable based on the device’s system object identifier (sysObjectID).
The network management data structure for sysObjectIDs is defined in RFC1155 (“Structure and Identification of Management Information for TCP/IP-based Internets” (SMI)) and RFC1213 (“Management Information Base for Network Management of TCP/IP-based Internets: MIB-II.” The prefix for private enterprise is .1.3.6.1.4.1, then the next number is the private enterprise identifier (ID) that identifies the device vendor. Private enterprise IDs are managed by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and a full list is available at http://www.iana.org/assignments/enterprise-numbers. Any number after the enterprise ID is assigned and managed by the enterprise according to a structure they define. An asterisk (*) in a sysObjectID means “match any.” Since each vendor defines the structure following the enterprise ID, they can specify numbers to correspond to certain operating systems or families of devices. For example, Cisco Systems uses .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.* for Cisco IOS, IOS XR, PIX, ASA, and FWSM and .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.* for CATOS devices.
This section lists the metric classes and vendors/device types to which they apply. This information is presented in tables organized both by vendor/device type and by metric class group and the tables provide sysObjectID and the corresponding vendor/device type, when applicable:
The Metric Group, table lists universal metric classes that apply to all SNMP-manageable devices
The Metric Class, table lists the vendor(s)/device type(s) and the metric classes that can be polled for each
The Metric Class, table lists the metric classes and the vendor(s)/device type(s) to which the metric class applies
Additional information about the metrics in each metric class is available in “Built-In Metrics".
