SNMP settings

SNMP settings can be set globally or by device. NetProfiler uses the global default SNMP settings unless you specify custom SNMP settings. Global settings are specified on the Administration > Integration > Global SNMP Settings for NetFlow Reporting Devices page. You can navigate to that page or open it from the Administration > Devices/Interfaces page Devices & Interfaces tab or Devices tab by choosing Global SNMP Settings from the Options menu. more

Custom settings for a device are specified on the Administration > Devices/Interfaces page Devices & Interfaces tab or Devices tab. Click the Edit link in the row listing the device. This opens the SNMP Settings window for the device. There you can specify customs settings that take precedence over the global settings.

Each device can be identified as using default settings or custom settings. When a setting for a Flow Gateway is changed, the change is automatically applied to the settings for all devices that are sending data to that Flow Gateway. However, you can change the setting for any individual device.

Assume, for example, that you have a Flow Gateway that is set to use the Default SNMP settings when obtaining device information from each of four devices that are sending it NetFlow data. If you change the SNMP setting for the Flow Gateway to V2c, it will automatically switch to using SNMP Version 2c for contacting all four NetFlow devices.

Continuing this example, you could subsequently set one of the four NetFlow device entries to V1. In this case, the Flow Gateway would use Version 1 to communicate with that device and Version 2c to communicate with the other three.

When you edit the SNMP settings of a switch or lookup router that is listed on the Administration > Devices/Interfaces page, you can copy those settings to the Administration > Integration > Switch Port Discovery page.   more
