About the Management Console
The Management Console is a browser-based, graphical user interface (GUI) for Riverbed acceleration products. After you have installed an appliance and performed the initial configuration, you can finish custom configurations through its Management Console.
The Management Console supports the latest versions of common browsers from Google, Mozilla, and Microsoft. JavaScript and cookies must be enabled in your web browser.
If you prefer command-line tools, you can configure, monitor, and troubleshoot using the Riverbed command-line interface (CLI).
You’ll need to know the URL to the appliance and authentication credentials for a configured user. The default administrator account credentials assigned during initial configuration are username admin with no password.
The URL uses this format: <protocol>://<host>.<domain>.
The <protocol> variable is http or https. HTTPS uses the SSL/TLS protocol to ensure a secure environment. When you connect using HTTPS, the system prompts you to inspect and verify the key certificate. This is a self-signed certificate that provides encrypted web connections to the Management Console. The system re-creates the certificate when you change the appliance hostname or when the certificate expires.
The appliance secure vault doesn’t store the self-signed certificate used with HTTPS connections.
The <host> variable is the hostname assigned to the appliance’s primary interface during initial configuration. Optionally, you can specify the DNS name.
The <domain> variable is the full domain name for the appliance.
Alternatively, you can specify the IP address instead of the host and domain name.
The Management Console’s sign-in page differs depending on the type of authentication method configured on the appliance. Upon initial signin, the Dashboard page appears. There you can see system status and other useful summary information.
