Available blockstore space
This section describes the available blockstore, usable storage, and the maximum pinnable storage.
Virtual Edge model | Blockstore (GB / GiB) | Usable storage (GB / GiB) | Maximum pinnable storage (GB / GiB) |
| This value refers to the space after RAID configuration for the entire blockstore. | This value refers to the space available to store LUNs after accounting for the metadata. The metadata uses approximately 8% of the size of the blockstore. | This value refers to the maximum space that can be reserved by pinned LUNs. This value is lower than usable storage to ensure that a minimum amount of space is reserved for writes. |
VSFH1100 | 1000 GB (1 TB) / 931 GiB (0.9 TiB) | 919.06 GB / 855.95 GiB | 827.16 GB / 770.36 GiB |
VSFH1200 | 5000 GB (5 TB) /4656 GiB (4.65 TiB) | 4900 GB (4.9 TB) / 4180 GiB (4.18 TiB) | 4130 GB (4.13 TB) / 3760 GiB (3.76 TiB) |
Note: Tebibyte (TiB), gibibyte (GiB), mebibyte (MiB), and kibibyte (KiB) are units with binary prefixes defined by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The value of 1 GiB is approximately equal to 1.074 GB and 1 TiB is approximately equal to 1.1 TB. Be aware of the slight difference between these values when you are calculating the available space for your deployment.
The Riverbed SteelFusion Virtual Edge Installer displays the available physical storage using binary value (base 2 that is, 1024 bytes = 1 KB) rather than decimal value (base 10 that is, 1000 bytes = 1 KB). The base 10 value is used in this table and the specification sheet for the appliance. For example, when 2.6 TB is displayed in the Edge Installer it represents 2.9 TB of available space.
Microsoft Windows operating system calculates disk and file sizes using binary value, but represents the value in decimal units. After Virtual Edge deployment on Hyper-V, the blockstore size for VSFH1200 model is displayed as 4.75 TB (TiB value is represented in TB). For VSFH1100 model, the blockstore size is displayed as 990 GB (GiB value is represented in GB).
