Configuring Storage : Configuring Edges

Configuring Edges
You can configure and modify connectivity with Edges in the SteelFusion Edges page.
To configure an Edge
1. Choose Configure > Manage: SteelFusion Edges to display the SteelFusion Edges page.
2. Configure the Edge using the controls described in this table.
Control
Description
Show/Hide Preferred Interfaces for SteelFusion Edge Connections
Click to show or hide the preferred interfaces for Edge connections. For details, see To modify an existing Edge configuration.
Add a SteelFusion Edge
Displays controls for adding an Edge to the current configuration.
SteelFusion Edge Identifier
Specify the identifier for the Edge. This value must match the value configured on the Edge.
Note: Edge identifiers are case sensitive.
Blockstore Encryption
Select one of the following encryption types from the drop-down list. The encryption types are listed from the least to the most secure.
•  No encryption - Disables data encryption.
•  Using AES_128 bit key - Encrypts data using the AES cryptographic key length of 128 bits.
•  Using AES_192 bit key - Encrypts data using the AES cryptographic key length of 192 bits.
•  Using AES_256 bit key - Encrypts data using the AES cryptographic key length of 256 bits.
Add SteelFusion Edge
Adds the new Edge to the running configuration. The newly added device appears in the list.
3. To remove an existing Edge configuration, click the trash icon in the Remove column.
To modify an existing Edge configuration
1. Click the Edge name in the SteelFusion Edge table to expand a set of additional controls for configuring the selected Edge.

Description
Status
This panel displays the following information about the selected Edge configuration:
•  IP Address - The IP address of the selected Edge.
•  Connection Status - Indicates whether the selected Edge is connected to the Core.
•  Connection Duration - Duration of the current connection.
•  Total LUN Capacity - The total storage capacity of the LUN dedicated to the selected Edge.
•  Blockstore Encryption - Shows the type of encryption of the blockstore data (if any).
•  Read IO Latency - Shows the average read I/O time (in milliseconds) for the specified Edge.
•  Write IO Latency - Shows the average write I/O time (in milliseconds) for the specified Edge.
•  SteelFusion Edge Data I/O report - The graph is displayed in reduced scale. Click View Full Report to go to the SteelFusion Edge Data I/O report page. For details, see Viewing the SteelFusion Edge Trends.
•  Blockstore Metrics
•  Commit Delay - Estimated time (in seconds) to drain the uncommitted blockstore data back to Core.
•  Space Utilization - Percentage of the blockstore is currently being used by uncommitted data.
•  Time To Commit - Delay (in seconds) to commit the blockstore data.
•  Uncommitted Bytes - Percentage of the blockstore is currently being used by uncommitted data.
For details about blockstore metrics, see Viewing Storage Reports.
Target Settings
This panel displays the following controls for configuring the target settings:
•  Target Name - Displays the system name of the selected Edge.
•  Require Secured Initiator Authentication - Requires CHAP authorization when the selected Edge is connecting to initiators.
•  Enable Header Digest - Includes the header digest data from the iSCSI PDU.
•  Enable Data Digest - Includes the data digest data from the iSCSI PDU.
•  Update Target - Applies the changes you make to these settings.
Note: If the Require Secured Initiator Authentication setting is selected, you must set authentication to CHAP in the adjacent Initiators tab.
Initiators
Displays controls for adding and managing initiator configurations:
•  Initiator Name - Specify the name of the initiator to be configured. As of version 4.3, you can click Add Discovered Initiator to display a list of initiator names connected to the Edge in a drop-down list to choose from instead of having to cut and paste the iSCSI Qualified Name (IQN) from ESXi. As long as an initiator is connected to an Edge, it appears in this list.
•  Add to Initiator Group - Select a group name from the drop-down list or click New Group to add a new group.
•  Authentication - Select the authentication method from the drop-down list:
•  None - No authentication required.
•  CHAP - Only the target authenticates the initiator. The secret is set just for the target; all initiators that want to access that target must use the same secret to begin a session with the target.
•  Mutual CHAP - The target and the initiator authenticate each other. A separate secret is set for each target and for each initiator in the storage array.
For details about CHAP and mutual CHAP, see To configure one-way CHAP.
Note: If the Require Secured Initiator Authentication setting is selected for the Edge in the Target Settings tab, authentication must be configured for a CHAP option.
•  Add Initiator - Adds the new initiator to the running configuration.
Initiator Groups
Displays controls for adding and managing initiator group configurations:
•  Group Name - Specifies a name for the group.
•  Add Group - Adds the new group. The group name displays in the Initiator Group list.
After this initial configuration, click the new group name in the list to display additional controls.
LUNs
Displays LUNs to the selected Edge.
To map LUNs to the selected Edge, choose Configure > Manage: LUNs.
To manage group and initiator access, click the name of the LUN to access additional controls.
Prepopulation
Displays controls for configuring prepopulation tasks.
Note: This prepopulation schedule is applied to all virtual LUNs mapped to the currently selected Edge if no LUN-specific schedule is configured.
•  Schedule Name - Specify a task name.
•  Start Time - Select the start day and time from the respective drop-down lists.
•  Stop Time - Select the stop day and time from the respective drop-down lists.
•  Add Prepopulation Schedule - Adds the task to the Task list.
Note: To delete an existing task, click the trash icon in the Task list.
