AWS Information report

To run the AWS Information report,

  1. Choose AWS Information on the Built-in tab of the Reports > All Reports page.

  2. Fill in the Report Criteria section as necessary.

  3. Click Run.

The AWS Information report shows who is using your AWS cloud network and what they are using it for. That is, it lists host pairs that are connecting through the network and lists the applications they are running.

If there are defined host groups for the AWS_Regions, AWS_VPCs and AWS_AZs host group types, then the report can display traffic volumes for those group types individually in pie charts, tables and a connection graph. For a detailed discussion of defined AWS host group types, refer to AWS host group types.

The report includes a Report Criteria section and a section for displaying the results of running the report.

Report Criteria section

Use this section to:

  • Limit the report to traffic that meets specific criteria for a specific time frame.

  • Select which type of AWS host groups to report by.

  • Save, schedule or run the report.

Hosts, subnets, host groups box

Use this box to limit the report to a comma-separated list of hosts, subnets of hosts, or host groups.

NetProfiler accepts IPv4 addresses and prefix lengths for subnets in CIDR format. Specify hosts as a comma-separated list of DNS host names and/or IP addresses or address ranges.

To report traffic by host groups, enter the host group name in the format: group_type:group_name

When you start entering a name, a dropdown list displays the available host group names.

Traffic Report section

The results section of the AWS Information report includes three sections:

  • Overall Traffic - a chart indicates total traffic volume over the specified time frame.

  • Host Traffic - two pie charts and two tables:

    • a pie chart showing the top 10 host pair traffic volumes and a table listing host pair traffic volumes.

    • a pie chart showing the top 10 application traffic volumes and a table listing application traffic volumes.

  • VPC Traffic - pie chart, table and connection graph

    • a pie chart showing the top 10 host group pair traffic volumes and a table listing host group pair traffic volumes.

    • a connection graph showing connections among the AWS host group types selected in the Report Criteria section.

Report controls

The report has a Report Options menu at the top for options that act on the entire report, such as saving, scheduling, printing, emailing, exporting and changing display units.

There are also controls in each section of each report, which apply to only the individual section. These provide options for changing table columns, changing the number of rows in a table, filtering data, and exporting data from tables and charts into a Comma-Separated-Value (CSV) files.
