Introduction

The Riverbed Alluvio™ NetProfiler appliance monitors the network to identify activity that indicates performance or availability problems, usage policy violations, or security threats. It alerts you when it determines that such activity has occurred. You can then examine the details and determine the appropriate action to take.

The NetProfiler monitors network traffic from Riverbed Alluvio AppResponse 11, NetShark and Cascade Sensor appliances, which monitor link activity through the use of taps or mirror ports, and from the NetShark module of an AppResponse 9.6.x appliance.

It can also receive traffic information from Alluvio Flow Gateway appliances, which receive flow data  from NetFlow, sFlow and IPFIX devices installed at key points in the network.

The NetProfiler aggregates, de-duplicates, and analyzes the data from all sources and develops baselines of what is normal traffic for each host. It compares current traffic with mathematically derived tolerance ranges or with user-defined limits to detect network or application performance problems. It then notifies designated users and management systems when an event is detected.

The appliance keeps histories and generates reports of alerts for analysis. Summary and detail reports about conditions or events that triggered alerts are displayed on a web-browsable user interface. Reports can be scheduled, emailed, printed, exported, and saved.

The NetProfiler can be integrated with management systems, monitoring equipment, vulnerability scanners, and other network devices.
