Portal
Alluvio Portal users can access NetProfiler information in two ways:
-
Right-click a value displayed on an Portal page. If the value was provided by NetProfiler, then the right-click menu will include a "Go to NetProfiler" option. Choosing this option opens the NetProfiler login page. After RPM Dashboard users have logged in to NetProfiler, they receive reports on items they right-click.
-
Reports that NetProfiler provides to Portal have a "Go to NetProfiler" link in the upper left corner. Portal users who are logged in to NetProfiler can click this link to gain access to the full NetProfiler user interface. Their access level is determined by the permissions of the NetProfiler account they logged in to.
NetProfiler user accounts
An account must be created on NetProfiler for the Portal software to retrieve data from NetProfiler. Portal users can be given access to this account or can be given other NetProfiler accounts for viewing reports.
Password lockouts
If the Portal software or an Portal user attempts to log in to NetProfiler using an incorrect password, the account will be locked out after several unsuccessful login attempts. The number of unsuccessful login attempts permitted before the account is locked out and the length of the lockout are specified in the NetProfiler global settings for user accounts. Go to Administration > Account Management > User Accounts and click Settings.
The Administration > Account Management > User Accounts page also provides an Enable/Disable control for each user account and an Unlock control for accounts that have been locked out. A NetProfiler user with an Administrator account can unlock a user account that has been locked out because of too many unsuccessful login attempts. If an account is locked or disabled, it is not accessible from Portal.
It may be useful to have one NetProfiler account for the Portal software and another account for Portal users. This will prevent users from locking the account used by the Portal software.
It is possible (although not recommended because of security considerations) to use the factory-created NetProfiler admin account for Portal access and to prevent it from being locked out. To prevent lockouts on this account, go to Administration > Account Management > User Accounts and click Settings. On the settings popup, enable the "Prevent user 'admin' from being locked out via a DoS attack" feature. This does not affect any user-created admin accounts.
