Global SNMP settings
NetProfiler receives traffic flow information from Flow Gateway appliances. It also receives information about the devices that are sending flow data to Flow Gateway.
Flow Gateway uses SNMP to retrieve information about devices that are sending flow data to it. To connect to these devices, it must have SNMP credentials. It receives these from NetProfiler.
When you add or change an SNMP credential on NetProfiler, or when a Flow Gateway connects or reconnects to NetProfiler, NetProfiler sends SNMP credentials to the Flow Gateway.
Flow Gateway uses SNMP credentials to connect to flow data source devices in the following order of precedence:
-
The most recently-used credential for reaching the device being polled. If this is not successful, then
-
The device-specific credential specified for the device on the Administration > Devices/Interfaces page. If this is not successful or it has not been supplied, then
-
The global SNMP settings specified on the Administration > Integration > Global SNMP Settings for NetFlow Reporting Devices page.
Flow Gateway tries the global SNMP credentials in the order in which they are listed on this page. When it finds one that succeeds, it connects to the device, retrieves the device information, and stores the successful credentials to use the next time it polls the device.
Note: SNMP settings do not support single quotes, double quotes, and the backslash character ( ', ", and \). All other UTF-8 characters are supported.
To specify global SNMP credentials,
-
Navigate to the Administration > Integration > Global SNMP Settings for NetFlow Reporting Devices page. You can also open this page by choosing Global SNMP Settings from the Options menu on the Devices & Interfaces tab of the Administration > Devices/Interfaces page.
-
Click Add to open a popup for specifying new credentials.
-
Assign a label for convenience in identifying the credentials. This appears only in the Default Credentials list.
-
Select the version of SNMP the device is using.
-
For Versions 1 or 2c, enter the community string. For Version 3, enter any required authentication and privacy settings.
-
Click OK.
-
On the Global SNMP Settings for NetFlow Reporting Devices page, ensure the polling and refresh settings are as required.
Poll unresolved interfaces data every… -- controls how often the system attempts to poll devices that could not be polled successfully the last time polling was attempted. It does not apply to AppResponse 11.
Refresh existing interfaces data every … -- controls how often the system attempts to poll devices that were polled successfully the last time polling was attempted.
- Click Apply.
When you enable global polling, the polling and refresh settings apply to all devices and interfaces listed on the Administration > Devices/Interfaces page Devices & Interfaces tab with the exception that the "Poll unresolved interfaces data every …" setting does not apply to AppResponse 11.
