Preferred interfaces

NetProfiler automatically adds up to 100 interfaces to the preferred interfaces list. However, you can manually add interfaces until the total of automatically and manually added interfaces is 2000.

When NetProfiler receives flow information for an interface that it has not seen before, it automatically designates that interface as a preferred interface. If you delete the interface from the Preferred Interfaces view, it will not be added again unless you first delete it from the system on the Administration >  Devices/Interfaces page.

AppResponse, NetShark and Cascade Sensor interfaces that are used to send flow data to NetProfiler are not added to the Preferred Interfaces list.

NetProfiler stops adding interfaces to the Preferred Interfaces list when the total reaches 100. For example, assume that the list includes 100 preferred interfaces. Assume you delete one by selecting it on the Definitions > Interface Groups page and clicking "Delete selected." This makes the interface an ordinary interface, meaning that NetProfiler does not compute traffic statistics for it unless you include it in a report.

This would leave 99 preferred interfaces. The next time NetProfiler sees an interface that it has not seen before, it would add the interface to the Preferred Interfaces list, making the total 100 again.
