This framework is transparent to the administrator with no visible change in the way the Core Management Console operates, and no change in the syntax of the relevant CLI commands. The framework operates in conjunction with existing native snapshot support that uses array vendor’s software development kits (SDKs) where available and handoff scripts when no SDK is available.

Over time, this new snapshot framework will remove the need for snapshot handoff scripts or SDKs for vendor storage arrays. Any existing arrays that have been using either of these previous methods will now be supported by the snapshot framework.

The product supports the EMC Unity storage array.
