About uplink types
An uplink type is a label used to group uplinks with similar functions. On the SCC, uplink types help standardize configurations across multiple sites and are essential for setting up path selection rules. While the name of an uplink type must be unique within a site, it can be reused across different sites. This consistency allows the SCC to apply global path selection rules effectively. The SCC supports a maximum of eight uplink types.
Uplink types serve as the foundation for defining path preference order. For instance, you might name uplinks as Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary to indicate preference levels for routing traffic. These types can reflect specific network providers (like Verizon) or broader resource categories tied to a network.
On SteelHeads, this setting is referred to as Uplink Name, while on the SCC it's called Uplink Type. It’s best practice to use consistent names for uplinks that connect to the same network across all sites. This helps simplify management and maintain alignment between SCC policies and local SteelHead configurations.
