About host settings
Host settings are located on the Administration > Networking: Host Settings page.
Client Accelerator Controller host settings include host name, domain name system (DNS), hostname-to-IP mapping, and web and file transfer protocol (FTP) proxy settings.
For DNS, we recommend you use DNS resolution. If you don’t use DNS resolution, or the host does not have a DNS entry, you can use the Hosts settings to map hostnames to IP addresses.
Web and FTP proxy settings enable you to configure access to the controller through a proxy. You might want to enable this functionality if you are running the controller in a secure environment. For example, you might enable the feature to allow the controller to contact the Riverbed licensing portal and fetch licenses through the proxy. Optionally, you can require user credentials to communicate with the proxy, and you can specify the method used to authenticate and negotiate user credentials.
• Basic—Requests a valid username and password. This is the default setting.
• NTLM—Uses challenge and response.
• Digest—Requests a valid username and password, and improves security because the system sends the user credentials across the network as a Message Digest 5 (MD5) hash.
Web proxy access is disabled by default. These proxies are supported: Squid, Blue Coat Proxy SG, Microsoft WebSense, and McAfee Web Gateway. The default port is 1080.
