Creating or modifying a host group from a table

You can use hosts listed in a table in a report to:

  • Define a new host group.

  • Redefine an existing host group.

  • Replace an existing host group.

You can use any table that has a column listing host names or host IP addresses.

To create or modify a host group from a table:

  1. Run the report. If applicable, use the Report Criteria section of the report and the Add/Remove Columns tool on the table options menu to display the data of interest.

  2. Pull down the table options menu and choose Export to Host Group.... This displays a window in which you can specify which hosts are to be placed into the host group.

  3. Ensure that the Export from column field displays the table column containing the hosts that you want to use in the host group definition.

  4. In the Host Group Type field, select the type of grouping (the view of the network) for the group.

  5. In the Host Group field, either

    • enter a new group name to create a new group, or

    • enter or browse to the name of an existing host group that you want to modify or replace.

  1. If you want to replace the definitions for an existing host group, select the Replace existing group definitions check box.

  2. If there are a large number of hosts and you want to limit the host group to a more specific set of hosts, click Show Filter to display the table filter in the first row of the table. Use filter specifications to limit the table to a more fully defined group of hosts.  more

  3. Click Continue to create the host group definition. This displays an edit page.

  4. Review the group definition in the edit window of the Identify Groups in this Group Type section. If you are redefining an existing host group, the edit window identifies which hosts are new, which hosts will be deleted, and which hosts in your list are already present in the group definition. Edit the definition if necessary.  more

  5. Click OK to create the new or modified host group.
