This section provides information about product dependencies and compatibility.
SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile
The following table summarizes the hardware, software, and configuration requirements for deploying the Mobile Controller.

Component
Hardware and Software Requirements
Mobile Controller appliance
19-inch (483 mm) two-post or four-post rack.
Mobile Controller Console
Any computer that supports a Web browser with a color image display, including Microsoft Surface Pro tablets.
The Mobile Controller has been tested with Mozilla Firefox v17 ESR and Microsoft Internet Explorer v8 and v9.
JavaScript and cookies must be enabled in your Web browser.
If you want to encrypt your communication, you must have an SSL-capable browser.
No particular operating system is required.
SteelHead Mobile
  • Operating Systems - Mobile Controller 4.7 and later supports:
  • Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit versions)
  • Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit versions)
  • Windows 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit versions)
  • Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012
  • Mac OS X v10.10, v10.9, v10.8 (Intel only)
    • For Windows operating systems, Windows XP, 2000, 2003, and Vista are no longer supported. For Macintosh operating systems, Mac OS X v10.7 and v10.6 are no longer supported.
  • SharePoint - SharePoint 2010, SharePoint 2013
  • CPU - 1 GHz or greater.
  • RAM - 1 GB or greater.
  • Disk - At least 256 MB of free disk space for the data store.
    • Carefully consider the data store size for your SteelHead Mobiles. Changing the data store size later requires clearing the data store, which temporarily slows performance.
  • SteelHead Appliance - At least one SteelHead is required, running RiOS v4.x or later.
  • Mobile Controller - Either the Mobile Controller or the Mobile Controller-v for RSP, Mobile Controller-v for VSP, or Mobile Controller-v for ESXi.
  • Concurrent Clients Supported per Mobile Controller - Each Mobile Controller and Mobile Controller-v for ESXi supports up to 4000 concurrent users. The Mobile Controller 9000 can support up to 20,000 concurrent users. Each Mobile Controller-v for RSP (which can be converted to run on VSP) supports up to 100 concurrent users.
  • VPN Compatibility - For detailed VPN specifications, see VPN Requirements.
  • Smart Card Access Software - For a list of the smart card access software supported, see Smart Card Access Software.
    • If you are enforcing outbound security, your firewall must allow the following client application components:
  • For Windows - rbtdebug.exe, rbtmon.exe, shmobile.exe, and rbtsport.exe
  • For Mac OS X - rbtdebug, rbtmond, rbtsport, and rbtuseragentd
    • The Windows Mobile Client software must be installed on an NTFS file system. SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead Mobile does not support installation on a FAT or FAT32 file system.
    Administrator privileges are required to install SteelHead Mobile software. Limited or standard user privileges are required to run or upgrade the software.
    You cannot have more than one SteelHead Mobile software installation per endpoint. Fast user switching is also not supported.
    Mobile Controller-v for RSP
    The following table summarizes the hardware, software, and configuration requirements for deploying the Mobile Controller-v for Riverbed Services Platform (RSP).

    Mobile Controller-v for VSP
    The following table summarizes the hardware, software, and configuration requirements for deploying the Mobile Controller-v for Virtual Services Platform (VSP).

    Mobile Controller-v for ESXi
    Mobile Controller-v for ESXi is supported on VMware ESXi v5.0, 5.1, and 5.5. Install and configure Mobile Controller-v for ESXi using VMware VI or the VMware vSphere Client.
    Virtual machine snapshots are not supported by Mobile Controller-v for ESXi.
