Manually initiating a vulnerability scan

Operators and Administrators can manually initiate a vulnerability scan by either of two methods:

  • Click Run Scan on the Quick Scan or Deep Scan tab of the Administration > Integration > Vulnerability Scanning page.

  • Right-click the host, as described below.

  1. Right-click the IP address of the host to be scanned, wherever it is displayed in the NetProfiler GUI.

  2. Choose Vulnerability scan on the shortcut menu. This opens the Run Vulnerability Scan window.

  3. Select the type of scan configuration to run ( Quick Scan or Deep Scan).

  4. Add more IP addresses if you want to scan hosts in addition to the one you right-clicked. Use comma-separated IP addresses. The maximum number of hosts is 256.

Note:  Manual scans are not subject to the rate limit on the Auto Scan tab.  However, they are counted towards the limit when the next automatic scan runs.

  5. Enter a name for the scan report.

  6. Specify a port range if you want to override the default range of the scanner.

  7. Select Run in background if you prefer the scan to run off-screen while you do other things.

  8. Click Scan.

When a scan run in the background is complete, a scan report is automatically saved in the Completed Reports table of the Reports > Saved Reports page.  Reports from foreground scans appear automatically and can be saved by choosing the Save option on the displayed report.

You can view, print, and email scan reports. The content and format of a report are determined by the type of scanner you are using. Refer to your scanner documentation for descriptions of the information contained in the reports. The appearance of a report may vary from the appearance of the report available from the scanner GUI, depending on the scanner used.
