Welcome to the Federal Information Processing Standards Administration Guide. This guide describes how to administer Riverbed appliances so they are in compliance with Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS).

Throughout this guide, FIPS mode and FIPS compliance refer to use of the Riverbed Cryptographic Security Module (RCSM). The RCSM appears as the validated cryptographic module on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) vendor page instead of a specific Riverbed appliance. This guide is written for storage and network administrators who are familiar with administering and managing networks using common network protocols such as TCP, CIFS, HTTP, FTP, NFS, and so forth.
